COVID-19, school closures, and digital learning: DLC on NPR’s Marketplace report and in Education Week

COVID-19 news is dominating airwaves and websites, perhaps even faster than the virus itself is spreading.

Much has been written about school closures and whether schools can implement online options to continue instruction while schools are shut down. The Digital Learning Collaborative is exploring a longer response to the issue, and will post additional ideas in the near future.

In the meantime, we are sharing a few links:

From National Public Radio’s Marketplace podcast and radio show, Can tech keep learning on track during COVID-19 spread?, Evergreen’s John Watson was interviewed for this show.

From Education Week: Many Districts Won't Be Ready for Remote Learning If Coronavirus Closes Schools. The article discusses and links to the DLC report on eLearning Days, which was written prior to the emergence of COVID-19 and is not a guide to responding, but explores many issues relating to schools shifting instruction to online during closures.

From the California Departments of Education and Public Health, School Guidance on Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19. Much of the advice is applicable beyond California.
